CHL Training Information:
CHL License

The State of Texas requires that all new students must attend a minimum of a 10 hour proficiency training course and renewal students must attend the 4 hour renewal training course. The student must demonstrate firearm safe handling practices, shooting proficiency with a minimum score of 175 points on the shooting exam along with passing the written exam with a 70% or higher score.  Our instructor(s) are certified by Texas Department of Public Safety every two years & are also NRA Certified Instructor(s) & NRA Range Safety Officers.

The DFW GUNTRAINING instructors have been teaching the CHL Certification Course for over 10 years now and have customized the training environment so that everyone can learn and enjoy the class, which has an impressive 100% passing rate. The class room provides complimentary water, coffee and restrooms. The gun range is approximately 18+ miles from the classroom - so please have or arrange for transportation.

  5 Simple Steps to Obtain a New License:
     1. Attend our CHL Proficiency Training Class (state requirement).
    2. You will be issued a CHL application packet along with all materials for your supporting documentation.
    3. We assist you completing your state application & supporting documents in class.
    4. You choose to mail your application to the state or file online (your state license fee will be between:
        $70 to $140 for a 4 year license. If you mail the application you can pay with check or money order &
        if you file online you can pay with credit card - either way you will still mail in all of the supporting
        documentation.
    5. Wait for your license (average wait time 30 to 90 days). - feedback provided from previous students receiving their license.
 
  6 Simple Steps to Obtain a Renewal License:
    1. Login to the state website & pay for your renewal or contact the state and request a renewal paperwork.
    2. Attend our CHL Proficiency Training Class (state requirement if less then 3 renewals). Note: You may attend this class without your
        state application paperwork.
    3. You will be issued all materials for your supporting documentation (CHL-100 Form)
    4. We assist you completing your state application & supporting documents in class.
    5. You choose to mail your application to the state or file online (your state license fee will be between
        $35 to $70 for a 5 year license. If you mail the application you can pay with check or money order &
        if you file online you can pay with credit card - either way you will still mail in all of the supporting
        documentation.
    6. Wait for your license (average wait time 30 to 90 days) - feedback provided from previous students receiving their license.

    • Must score minimum of 175 points to pass by sequence shooting

    • Must demonstrate safe handling of firearm

    • Must demonstrate proficiency without being disqualified for safety violations

  • Written Exam

    • Must score minimum of 70% to pass

Notice: Department of Public Safety no longer permits CHL instructors to complete fingerprinting services as of March 01, 2011. The state now requires all fingerprint services to be completed at the L1 facilities for digital fingerprinting & electronic transmittal for faster backgound verifications. The prices for fingerprinting is regulated by the state - currently $9.95 per person. If applying online with TXDPS for your license, you will be automatically directed to L1id.com for registration with your assigned application number.

Please note that you need to attend our class prior to going to L1 for fingerprinting services. We provide you with the digital passport pictures that are not required to be signed by L1 staff taking your fingerprints - the pictures are included in our class, so do not pay for them: They charge an additional $15 to $25 for your pictures at L1 facilities.

Drivers License State ID Card, Passport or Permanent Resident Card to Class

Note: You may only take this class 6 months before your license expires and up to 1 year after it expires & we supply the state application packet.
